Daily Writing Prompt
What book are you reading right now?
I am currently reading Your Twenties, by Jessica Smith.
I am still fresh in my twenties era. I bought this book in hopes Smith would provide tips and insight on this time in my life that is overwhelming and stressful. On the front cover, she wrote, “No one ever teaches you how to grow up, you know?” That could not be truer. This is the time in our lives where we go off to college or straight to a job after high school. No one truly teaches you about self-love, relationships, body acceptance, healthy mind, and career. We have guidance from role models, parents, guardians, etc., but your twenties are truly about finding yourself. I like to call it trial by fire.
Our twenties are a decade of chaos, its out first step into the ‘real world’.
I felt this was the perfect read for me, as I am about to graduate college. My parents did a great job raising me, and I could not ask for better parents. However, they can’t teach me some important things in life, like self-love, body acceptance, etc. Their insight and guidance is important, but they can’t make me feel the same. They can tell me I am beautiful and perfect just the way I am, but it is how I take that in and apply it to my life.
You have to love yourself and accept yourself. The only way to do that is to teach yourself how to be the best YOU!
“No one does YOU, better than YOU.”
