I am bringing back my daily writing prompt answers!
Well jeez, let’s start out with a tough one why don’t we.
*Also, let me preface, my historical figure is way more important than I will discuss. I am taking an approach that is relatable to me (and growing up) and I am not undermining her impact on history at all. She has been way more impactful than my words could ever describe.
There are a couple that stand out in my mind. One example is Anne Frank. I was in the 4th grade, and we did a project on a historical figure, where we had to do a report (answer basic questions), dress up as the person, and give a presentation in front of the class. My person was Anne Frank.
After that project, I was fascinated by her. She is one of the many reasons I have a diary at home. I have read her ‘diary,’ I have watched all the movies, and she just flat-out amazes me. There are so many reasons why she fascinates me.
Her diary has literally become one of the most read, important, impactful, and inspiring books ever.
Regardless of the war and hiding, she wrote in her diary everyday. For a girl growing up, she touched on all the ‘phases’ a young girl goes through. Even though situations were different, that doesn’t change the mood swings, having a first love, bickering with parents, etc. that she went through. If you are a woman, you know exactly what I am talking about. She truly makes girls experiencing those phases of life feel like they aren’t alone.
My answer is not the most ‘historical’ answer, but she truly is a role model for young women.
Not only did the diary allow us to learn from her, but it is now a piece of history because it took us all through the day-to-day life of being in hiding amid Nazi persecution. On top of that, she wrote stories and tales within the diary. She also planned to write a book about the ‘Secret Annex,’ which her father made happen after the war.
Now, looking back and seeing her as a celebrated journalist, I think it is ironic that I am a journalist now.
*Woah, crazy just had a moment there for a minute. She is such an inspiration to me.*
On a side note, if you haven’t seen The Diary of Anne Frank movie or haven’t read the book, I highly suggest it. We were required to read the book in school growing up, but it is one that I have re-read many times.
Thanks for reading 🙂
